This week I have learned how good business ideas come into fruition and how business men and women look past possible trials and push forward with their business. Carly Fiorina's time with Hewlett Packard was an opportunity to shine by boldly choosing good marketing strategies. I was impressed by the fact that she suggested Hewlett Packard would become the world leader in technology. I like how she explained how they can replicate their product and distribution network. More importantly though, she explained how customer satisfaction is the main indicator for how well a business is doing, not sales figures and the like.
I also was a bit surprised by Frank Levinson of Finesar explained that to have ethical people in a company you should hire nice people. I was somewhat taken back by that because how many people are actually nice how have good jobs. A lot of businessmen and women can be a bit on the rude side. One thing that occurred to me just as I'm writing this is that when we have a desire to keep God's commandments, He will make us nice people. Granted there are great people who are not members of the church. However, we as Latter-Day-Saints are given an extra charge to be Christlike (nice).
I have many interests out there: weather, airplanes, cars, grocery stores, retail, handyman work. There's just so much I'm interested in, I'm not sure I can pin down one particular field I'm interested in enough to start a business. Obviously if I wanted to go into weather, I'd have to possess a meteorology degree. If I want to work in the grocery business, I'd be working for someone else.
I am getting an impression that starting an online business where I educate people about weather facts and share stories of people I know and personally experiences to let everyone know who is not familiar with certain information the ability to quickly understand risks and dangers involved with weather. I also like handyman work. Honestly, that would be a very good business to be involved in. Almost all people need a handyman!
As I take the time to interview my entrepreneur friend, I hope to be able to glean information off of him that will help serve my entrepreneurial ideas, goals, and dreams for the future. I feel like I could be successful starting a business by looking at it as a "fun" new opportunity serving people and doing something I love.
