I am thrilled to have had the opportunity to take a course in entrepreneurship at BYU-Idaho! Brother Holmes, my instructor has taken the time to put together some really thoughtful and substantive material for the course. I have learned that being a businessman doesn't necessarily need to stress me out, but there are some guidelines to follow. I know that one thing I really need to do is find my passion, dream big, don't get discouraged when failures happen. Failures in business are inevitable, but it doesn't mean that it is the end of you and your business.
I learned about charting my course to success through mapping out stars. I also need to realize that my business ideas can evolve over time and my whole business plan can change. As a matter of fact, one of the simple principles that stood out to me in the Harvard Business School journals we studied in this course taught me that not all entrepreneurs necessarily need to do a lot of planning and research. If too much time is devoted to doing those things, you may miss your golden opportunity to have an idea come to fruition and give you the business and clients to make you successful.
I've also learned that successful entrepreneurship involves a delicate balance between tending to your business or work life and devoting the right amount of time to your family life. It has been very insightful to watch those short videos every week in the modules to learn facts and advice from real-life entrepreneurs. Carly Fiorina for example had a very positive attitude about how she felt HP could easily oust Dell in the technology/ PC industry. There were various other entrepreneurs I was impressed by that I can't remember the names of. I just may have remember Carly better because she is a former Presidential candidate from the 2016 campaign.
I really am hopeful that I can chart my course to successful entrepreneurship in my life. I have plenty of people inside and outside of the church whom I can lean on for advice at business opportunities, management, science, and various industries that I could easily see myself get involved in in the future. The future does indeed look bright and I am very grateful to have been able to take Introduction to Entrepreneurship!
